Odil Porrua

Chargée de recherche au CNRS
UMR7592 (Institut Jacques Monod), Paris

Since the beginning of her scientific career, Odil Porrua has focused on different aspects of gene expression. During her PhD in the laboratory of E. Santero (Spain), from 2005 to 2009, Odil has studied the regulation of several genes involved in the biodegradation of pollutants in bacteria.

In 2009 Odil has joined the group of Domenico Libri, formerly at the Centre de Génétique Moléculaire (Gif sur Yvette), and since 2013 at the Institut Jacques Monod (Paris). Initially as a post-doc and since 2014 as a CNRS researcher, Odil has developed several projects related to the metabolism of non-coding RNAs using budding yeast as model organism. Remarkably, using combined biochemical and structural approaches, she has characterized in detail the mechanisms of termination of non-coding transcription. Her findings have shed light into an essential step in gene expression that remained mysterious. In 2016, Odil obtained an ANR funding that has allowed her to investigate the role of transcription termination in the regulation of gene expression.
