Charbel ALFEGHALI

Cv

Charbel Alfeghaly obtained his bachelor degree in life and earth sciences and a master degree in genomics and health at the Lebanese University in Beirut. He then pursued a PhD at the UMR 7365 IMoPA (Molecular Engineering and Articular Physiopathology) in Nancy, France, under the supervision of Dr Isabelle Behm-Ansmant and Dr Sylvain Maenner.

His thesis project focused on the molecular characterization of the long noncoding RNA ANRIL. He combined biochemical and molecular approaches to identify the genes directly contacted and regulated by ANRIL. His work also brought evidences that ANRIL targets specific genomic loci via direct interactions not mediated by proteins. This study allowed to refine the so-called trans-activity of ANRIL and better understand its molecular links to diseases.

After his PhD, he joined the Lab of Dr Claire Rougeulle in Paris, France as a post-doctoral researcher. He is currently exploring the evolution of X chromosome inactivation across different primate species such as human, chimpanzee, and rhesus macaque.
