Post-doctoral position in structural biochemistry

IMoPA UMR 7365

A post-doctoral research position is available in the research group of Xavier Manival ( at the University of Lorraine (IMoPA laboratory,, in Nancy, France, in a dynamic team (co-directed by B. Charpentier and Y. Motorin) investigating the structure and function of RNAs and RNPs. snoRNPs are present in Archaea and Eukarya and are among the most ancient non-coding RNPs. They play essential roles during ribosomal RNA biogenesis. They are divided into two families, depending on which sequence-specific rRNA modifications they catalyze: box C/D and H/ACA snoRNPs, respectively involved in 2'-O-methylation and pseudo-uridinylation.

The post-doctoral project aims at deciphering at the molecular level the assembly mechanisms of macromolecular complexes, taking snoRNP C/D as a working model (Maurizy et al., 2018; Quinternet et al., 2016; Bizarro et al., 2014; Rothe et al., 2014; Back et al., 2013).

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of molecular, cellular, and structural biologists. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with other groups as part of an ANR network. We offer a biological/medical environment with structural facilities for integrated structural biology, including a 600 MHz NMR spectrometer with cryoprobe, high-throughput crystallization screening (Mosquito and TECAN robots), X-ray diffractometer (X8-Proteum Bruker), and a biophysics core facility (ITC, DLS, CD, SPR).

The research position is funded by the ANR project snoRNPASSEMBLY for 1 year from 1st April 2019. We are looking for a highly motivated, scientifically independent and creative fellow, capable of contributing to a team environment. To be eligible for this post-doctoral position, candidates must have completed their PhD within the last two years at the start of the contract. Requirements are excellent skills in modern molecular biology techniques, as well as experience in production and purification of recombinant proteins from E. coli and/or other organisms for structural biology. Expertise in at least one of the following areas is mandatory: protein or RNA biochemistry, X-ray crystallography, and cryo-electron microscopy.

Please submit your application by e-mail ( with a cover letter summarizing current and future research interest, curriculum vitae with publication list, and contact information for at least two references including one from your present work place.
