Jacques-Henry Weil passed away October 6, 2016

Jacques-Henry Weil, Secretary of International Relations of the SFBBM and former Vice-Chair of the Society died on 6 October 2016.

Jacques-Henry Weil was an honorary professor at the University of Strasbourg, a former research vice-president of the University, a member of the EMBO. He soon became known to the worlds studying and teaching in the book of general biochemistry which he wrote, reprinted in Many times and more commonly referred to as the "Weil".

He was the first director of the Institute of Molecular Biology of Plants of the CNRS in Strasbourg, which he helped to create. Jacques-Henry participated very significantly in the knowledge of the mechanisms of translation of genetic information in plants. Very active in the French scientific community, his commitments were also multiple and lasting internationally: Secretary General of the IUBMB, Chair of the FEBS Science & Society Committee, Member of the EMBO Scholarship Committee, Member of the EMBC, to name but a few of the many functions he held. He was a member of the organizing committee of the 2014 SFBBM-FEBS-EMBO congress in Paris, for which he was a force for proposals. He was a hard worker, with a keen sense of organization, initiated numerous scientific collaborations and helped the developing countries, especially Madagascar, where he visited a dozen times.

We lose a member who has profoundly marked his time. We owe him a lot. His endearing personality, his conviviality, his sense of humor will remain engraved in us.
