The University of Zürich invites applications for a position as
Assistant Professor in Biochemistry (Tenure Track)
beginning August 1, 2010
The University of Zürich is committed to further strengthening its research
efforts in protein science. It ranks among Europe's leading institutions in the Life
Sciences and provides a stimulating and attractive environment for
interdisciplinary research at the highest international level. Creative researchers
with a proven track record in using advanced quantitative biochemical and/or
biophysical techniques, possibly in a cellular context, are encouraged to apply.
Areas of particular interest are the investigation of large biomolecular
assemblies, membrane proteins, quantitative aspects of cell biology and
regulatory processes, or other innovative approaches to study important
biological problems at the molecular and structural level. The position will be
accompanied with an attractive startup package, including a competitive salary,
positions, consumables and equipment. Tenure evaluation is after 6 years.
The Institute of Biochemistry is located on the Irchel campus, where most of the
biological and physical science Institutes of the University provide an
international and competitive interdisciplinary research environment and state-
of-the-art research facilities. Nearby are the science Departments of the ETH
Zürich and the Paul-Scherrer-Institute, which houses the newly established
synchrotron Swiss Light Source for structural studies of biomolecules. Strong
ties in research and teaching are in place between corresponding departments
of the University and the ETH Zürich. Particularly, a National Center of
Competence in Research in Structural Biology was established in Zürich to
make it one of European Centers in structural biology and related areas and a
joint graduate school in the life sciences that allows the recruitment of Ph.D
students on an international level is in place. Ideally, the successful candidate
would further strengthen existing research programs at the University of Zurich
such as systems biology/functional genomics, neurosciences, molecular
medicine, integrative human physiology or cardiovascular sciences. The
appointment will be both with the Medical Faculty and the Faculty of Science.
The new professor will be expected to contribute to teaching of Biochemistry in
either German or English.
